Beyond unconferencing

Daves Briggs reflects on the recent ukgovcamp unconference he organised, and the need to move beyond conversation: “What we seem to lack is an ecosystem of ideas in public services. Discussions about new ways of doing things, how to change the way things are, how ideas get progressed into prototypes and then into actual delivered services or ways of working”.

totally agree conversation is good but connecting up peoples ideas is better. I’m starting to get MPs and their office staff talking about specific problems and shared solutions in their work. Local government institutions have some similar problems in their offices with uptake of new media and slow changing corporate IT for example but solutions come out of local contexts and more meaningful discussions. It’s about ownership really.
